Building Skills through Play
What if learning the most valuable skills for the future could be as simple—and fun—as playing a game?
We’re creating a Board Game Collection to help young people develop essential skills that employers are looking for— creative thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. And what better way to build these skills than through board games, which are a great and fun way to learn and grow?
In a recent World Economic Forum report on the Future of Jobs, these skills were ranked among the most valuable for 2025 and beyond. You can read the full report here.
But this project isn’t just about building skills. It’s part of a bigger effort to tackle some of the challenges young people face every day.
During our previous Erasmus project, Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges, Maltese youth shared that they:
- Feel addicted to their phones and social media → Board games offer a screen-free alternative.
- Don’t socialise enough face-to-face → Games encourage real-life interaction and teamwork.
- Struggle with mental health and stress → Games create a fun, relaxed environment to unwind.
Board games may not solve these problems completely, but they provide a practical and fun way to address them.
Who can make use of the Board Game collection?:
- Schools, youth centers and youth organisations can borrow games for free.
- Games will rotate between different establishments to keep things fresh.
- After playing, users will rate and give feedback to help us improve the collection.
- We’re committed to continuously expanding the collection with new and exciting board games. To make sure we’re meeting the needs and interests of the community, we’re inviting the public to share their preferences and suggestions. Your input will help us build a diverse and engaging collection that everyone can enjoy.
Why Your Voice Matters
Through this project, we aim to give young people opportunities to develop essential skills, connect with others, and reduce screen time. By encouraging social play, we help young people build confidence, creativity, and relationships that will benefit them throughout life.
